What Does Discovery Offer In The Line Of Hospital Plans?

• All the hospital plans in the Discovery Core series are based upon a concept called the KeyCare Network. This is a network of hospitals and other medical service providers that have entered into an agreement with the scheme to provide care and treatment at certain fixed fees. Members are, therefore, required to use only service providers that are part of the KeyCare Network.
• All the hospital plans in this series cover hospital costs fully. This includes surgery, treatments, the cost of specialists, and medication.
• Members have to obtain pre-approval from the scheme before being admitted to the hospital.
• Most plans make provision for hospitalization of up to ninety days or a sum of up to five million rand for each member of the scheme, including dependents if an emergency occurs while traveling outside the country.
• Members of the Classic Core and Essential Core plans are free to choose any private hospital for treatment purposes, but members of the Delta plans are restricted to those hospitals within the Delta Network. It is, therefore, important to find out just which facilities are part of this network.
• The Coastal Core program is unique because members must make use of one of the approved hospitals located in one of the four coastal provinces. Members that fail to comply with this stipulation will have to pay approximately thirty percent of the final bill themselves.
• All the plans make provision for medical cover during emergencies. This includes emergency evacuation to the nearest treatment facility.
• All the plans in the Core series also cover certain investigation procedures such as colonoscopies, X-rays, and gastroscopies. In some cases, however, the member will have to pay part of the bill.
