Liberty Medical
Scheme
South Africans are fortunate to be able to choose between many excellent medical aid schemes.
The Liberty Medical Scheme is a distinguished company that is the fourth largest in the country. It is an open
scheme and it was found when the then Medicover scheme merged with the Liberty Health medical scheme. The company
offers a wide range of medical care plans that can accommodate almost every need and
budget.
At the beginning of 2013 Liberty had a solvency rate of
twenty seven percent, which is a bit higher than the prescribed twenty five percent. They have a membership
total of around one hundred and thirty seven thousand, which makes them one of the biggest medical schemes in
the health care industry. In recent times they have introduced a number of new plans that are meant to address
the needs of a large variety of target markets.
-
The Prestige Plan cost R4 487.oo
for the principal member.

What are the key benefits offered by
the Liberty medical aid?
When choosing a medical scheme, it is vital to consider the benefits offered by each particular
scheme. The Liberty medical scheme
offers the following general benefits:
-
Cover for trauma treatment in cases of accidents. This cover is
available from day one.
-
Many one-day procedures are fully
covered.
-
The risk of contracting a dread disease is lessened due to
preventive care cover that forms part of many plans.
-
There is no need to pay up-front when admitted to hospital.
However, members must carefully study the terms for
hospitalization.
-
A host of in-hospital procedures are fully
covered.
-
In most cases, members enjoy extensive cover for MRI and CAT
scans.
-
Some plans include cover for members that participate in extreme
sports.
-
Treatment for HIV / AIDS related diseases are
covered.
-
Many plans include treatment and counselling for trauma caused by
crime incidents.
When evaluating the different Libety medical aid plans
it is extremely important to keep the needs of the family in mind. It is no use, for example, to try and save money
by choosing a hospital plan when one or more members of the family are suffering from chronic diseases. The
important thing to remember is that there are no guarantees when it comes to medical needs. Accidents can happen at
any time and disease strikes the least likely people. It is vital to make sure that the very best medical attention
will be available when these catastrophes occur.
