Selfmed Medical Aid is Simple and Sincere

Selfmed Medical Aid began in 1965, and then registered formally on 19 November 1974. It is one of few medical aid schemes that joined the Ethics Institute of South Africa, a body that monitors and regulates ethics. Their goal is to provide medical cover in a simplistic and sincere manner.

· Emergency transport is unlimited where ER24 services are used in South Africa, Lesotho, and Swaziland.

· CT scans and MRI scans are paid from major medical benefits.

· Medicine received when discharged from the hospital is paid by the medical aid.

· Pregnancy and birth benefits are generous.

· Procedures such as colonoscopies, gastroscopies, and laser tonsillectomies are paid when done in the hospital or out of the hospital. Co-payments could possibly apply.

· Rehabilitation and home nursing have unlimited benefits. Prior approval is required.

Selfmed Medical Aid MedxxiHospital Plan

Meddxxi plan is a basic hospital plan that is perfect for you if you are healthy with no chronic conditions, and seldom visit your general practitioner or require other day-to-day medical care. You may be admitted to any hospital in South Africa, and hospital cover is unlimited. This plan is affordable and gives you the opportunity to control what you spend on health care.

Selfmed Medical Aid SelfmedSelfsure

SelfmedSelfsure is the plan for families and couples that need substantial cover for day-to-day medical and health care. The hospital plan covers all hospitals in South Africa at the 100% medical aid tariff. Added to this medical aid is the prescribed minimum benefits cover for 26 chronic diseases. Anti-natal classes are covered to an amount of R1200.00.

Selfmed Medical Aid MED Elite

MED Elite also covers unlimited hospital coverage in any hospital in South Africa at 100% medical aid tariff. This plan is ideal for you and your family and older couples. The benefits in this medical scheme include cover for 65 different diagnosed chronic conditions. Substantial oncological benefits are covered, including coverage for biological drugs. Joint replacements are covered to 100% of medical aid tariff.

Selfmed Medical Aid Selfmed 80%

Selfmed 80% is a comprehensive medical aid cover for you and your family’s medical and health care costs. There is an additional co-payment of 20% for coverage of specialist treatment in the hospital and out of the hospital. You can be admitted to any hospital, and coverage is 100% of medical aid tariff. Similar to MED Elite, there is coverage for oncology drugs, joint replacements at 100% tariff, and 65 diagnosed chronic conditions.

HIV/AIDS Members Support

Selfmed medical aid provides support to medical aid members who are HIV positive. The HIV/AIDS coverage is comprehensive in all the medical plans. Optipharm is specialists when it comes to HIV/AIDS management. They are contracted to support members. Included in support are healthcare, nutrition advice, and counseling. When an HIV positive member joins the medical aid, a case manager is assigned to you specifically. They are dedicated, medically trained, and experienced to professionally assist you, to advise you, and to guide you. They will answer all your questions and give you the necessary tools enabling you to handle the reality of the disease mentally and physically.
